Description
Summary:The Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has brought many restrictions that have led to the drastic shift of everyday life. As a result, establishments that are reliant on physical interaction, such as schools and universities, have been shut down indefinitely and students have shifted to online or virtual platforms to facilitate learning. This has led to changes not only in the way classes are being held, but students who participate in sports as it led to the shift of training to online platforms and the closing of training facilities. With this, the study aimed to explore the experiences of student- athletes during online training. Using a qualitative research design, fifteen (15) student- athletes from De La Salle University (DLSU) were interviewed about their experiences during online training. The responses of each participant were gathered and analyzed through thematic analysis by comparing the responses of the student athletes and highlighting common themes and codes in order to interpret the data. After reviewing and finalizing the themes, a thematic map was created in order to have a visual representation of our results and show the relationships between themes and codes. In order to assure that the responses were properly understood, the results of the thematic analysis were shown to a sports psychologist. The participants were shown the analysis in order to validate the analysis. Significant findings discovered that there are multiple variables that have influenced their experiences, which resulted in eight (8) themes from the student-athletes' responses. Under each theme are thirty-two (32) codes that help encapsulate the experiences of the student-athletes during online training. Implications and future directions for research are also discussed.
