Description
Summary:Prejudice is an old phenomenon that has persisted since ancient years. The researchers gave focus towards Chinese-Filipinos due to the rising dislike towards the Chinese and the events during the pandemic. This research aims to see whether right-wing authoritarianism (RWA), social dominance orientation (SDO), COVID-19 anxiety, and competitiveness positively predict prejudice against Chinese-Filipino citizens. It also aims to see whether COVID-19 anxiety has a mediating effect between RWA and prejudice, and whether competitiveness has a mediating effect between SDO and prejudice. The researchers hypothesize that the predictors, mediators, and outcome variables of the study will have a positive correlation with one another. Using the Dual Process Model of ideology and prejudice, this cross-sectional correlational study gathered 162 Filipino young adults who are 18 to 25 years old, that answered the Very Short Authoritarianism Scale, Social Dominance Orientation-7, Coronavirus Pandemic Anxiety Scale, Cooperative/Competitive Strategy Scale, Michigan Feeling Thermometer Scale, and Bogardus Social Distance Scale. Bivariate correlation was used for the data analysis. The results show that RWA (p=.001, r=0.31) and SDO (p=.019, r=0.18) are the only variables that showed statistical significance on prejudice against Chinese-Filipino citizens. This can change the perspectives of the Chinese-Filipino individuals towards the Philippine society.
