Description
Summary:The purpose of this action research was to address the declining health and wellness of analysts in the regional operating headquarters (ROHQ) of a financial institution. The manifestation of the presented issue in the organization consists of unscheduled medical leaves, increased financial expenses due to physical strains and the constant fatigues and tiredness experienced. Together with my collaborators, we aimed to utilize our allotted breaks, minimize working longer hours and incorporate activities to boost health and wellness. In preparation for the initiatives, we used several integrative action research IAR tools in data collection and frameworks such as the Mental Health and Well-being Framework integrated with the human development flower and Lewin’s change management framework. The human development flower was employed to measure the state of the eight well-being (i.e., bodily, cognitive, emotional, social, aesthetic, moral, spiritual, and material) in each aspect. We focused on the bodily aspect/physical well-being for the first cycle as physical strains were experienced due to occupational stress. The intervention done included stretching activities and scheduled breaks. Upon unanimous decision to continuously execute the activities done on the first cycle, we decided to nourish the other well-being, namely the social and psychological well-being for the second cycle. Guided by the Mental Health and Well-being Framework, the chosen interventions for both action research cycles improved the health and wellness of the analysts as my collaborators and I were able to sustain the activities conducted through constant collaboration and persistency.
