Summary: | Toxic gas like formaldehyde can cause serious illnesses like cancer including lungs, kidney, bone, and stomach that can damage the nervous system. Formalin is commonly used as preservatives in fish to extend shelf life, which is a consumer concern. The development of gas sensors is a vital tool to monitor the quality of air in the surroundings and a basis for government officials to pass a law that promotes awareness and protection against harmful gasses mixed in air brought by commercial facilities. This study aims to fabricate a local-based gas sensors like Nickel Oxide, Graphene Nickel Oxide, and Graphene Nickel. Nanomaterials produced using Horizontal Vapor Phase Growth (HPVG) Technique. Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) is used for morphological characterization with the aid of JEOL JFC-1200 Fine coater used for gold sputtering, and Energy Dispersive X ray (EDX) for elemental composition of nanomaterials. Chronoamperometry technique installed in Biologic SP-150 instrument for electrical characterization of gas sensors. The formaldehyde gas concentration expressed in parts per million (ppm) is 0.95ppm, 1.91ppm, 2.86ppm, and 4.77ppm. Electrical current of the gas sensor when exposed in air and target gas is recorded at various input voltages, 0.25 volts,0,50 volts,0.75 volts,1 volt,2 volts, and 3 volts. Graphene Nickel Sensor from the Middle Region has the highest sensing response of 560.61 while Graphene Nickel Oxide Sensor and Graphene Nickel Sensor from Middle Region has the best sensitivity performance based on comparison of the number of positive values and negative values (17:7). |
