Description
Summary:In the absence of traditional face-to-face interaction due to the global health crisis, Philippine schools adopted the learning continuity plan (LCP) prescribed by Department of Education (DepEd). In addition, schools introduced technology-based or online programs such as Home-based Virtual Learning Program (HVLP). As a new program, evaluation of HVLP is necessary to determine its effectivity. Action Research Design using Deming’s PDSA Model and quasi-experimental approach were employed. Two heterogenous Grade 11 STEM classes utilized the HVLP-based module on ecosystems in the implementation of the study. The paired sample t-test and concept map showed that modules improved students’ knowledge on ecosystem. Exposing students to HVLP-based modules allowed demonstration of skills and positive attitudes. Further, results revealed that the HVLP synchronous instruction requires a strong teacher presence in a structured virtual learning environment. It also promotes student engagement and cognitive engagement. Similarly, the asynchronous instruction promotes self-directed learning and fosters student engagement. The study showed that HVLP-based module serves its purpose both as a teaching and learning tool.
