Summary:In this module, the participants are taught about the fundamental values and principles of democracy and the tensions among these values and principles, the major purposes of democracy and its essential elements and characteristics. It shall also cover the relationship between democracy and human rights. The session hopes to help the participants recognize and appreciate that they enjoy certain rights that cannot just be taken away. These very rights yield to the basic democratic philosophy of liberty, equality and fraternity. Democratic on the other hand are instituted on the conviction that the people as individuals have intrinsic rights.
