Garcia, Miguel Lorenzo B. Research is the primary means of knowledge creation. Thus, many academicians need to develop research writing skills in order to be published in journals. Many researchers have investigated the research paper as a genre. Some have focused on the introduction and methods section of the research article. However, few studies have strived to determine the moves in the discussion and conclusion sections of published research articles. Using the framework of Yang and Allison (2003) for analyzing the moves in the results, discussion and conclusion sections, this paper examined fifteen published research articles from biology and applied linguistics which followed the IMRDC format and had separate results, discussion, and conclusion sections. The obligatory, quasi obligatory, and optional moves were determined based on the mean of each move and step. Furthermore, the moves and steps in the two fields were compared. Implications for research and the two fields were presented. 2016-01-01T08:00:00Z text https://animorepository.dlsu.edu.ph/faculty_research/11090 Faculty Research Work Animo Repository Report writing Academic writing Educational Assessment, Evaluation, and Research
