Summary: | This study aims to design and develop an electronic billboard that can display secured and high capacity announcements applying the SMS. The hardware components of this design are composed of a 16-segment display with a driver that will act as a billboard display messages to be sent via SMS and personal computer which is connected to a printer port of a computer through a DB25 cable; the computer system is the main controller of over all operation of the system to ensure the security operation of each transaction, such as authentication of users and validity of messages. Nokia 3100 acts as a SMS receiver is capable of handling more than 160 characters per message and is connected to communication port of personal computer using DAU9P FBUS Connection Cable. The software components comprise of two computer programs to make the system works; system software OxygenMobile ActiveX is the primary program that is used to drive and interface cellular phone as a receiving controller of personal computer. The application software that was developed in Visual Basic 6.0 was coded to serve as graphical user interface that allows to process, manage and control incoming transactions. The application software was integrated with a database through MS Access to store authorized numbers, foul words and incoming text messages.Clear text, MD5 encryption and access control list were applied to prevent access of unauthorized user for the system. The experimental method of research was used in the study for the actual testing of the developed prototype to assess and review the security and high capacity of the proposed design. After several testing by the faculty members and students of Technological Institute of the Philippines-Manila as secondary users of the system, the proposed study was determined that it can provide secured and high capacity messages from the different local network provider. To improve this study, it is recommended that the system be interactive in order to have a feedback and reply with the system to the sender. Display must also be either LCD or PLASMA for better resolution in order to have a colorful and readable presentation to capture colored images, animation, and graphics as well as picture messages. |
