Marriage views of single Filipino females: A cross-sectional study on ages 13, 16 and 20

This study explored and examined the marriage views of single Filipino females ages 13, 16 and 20 years old. Three methods were utilized for better understanding of concepts: survey, focused group discussion and interviews. Results revealed that most adolescents perceived themselves to be married by the age of 25 years old. Other concepts related to marriage were also examined such as things to consider prior to marriage entry as well as dynamics that interplay within marriage. There is not much difference on views seen from 13, 16 and 20 years old. Nonetheless, the things in relation to marriage entry which they considered important at their present age were revealed. The 13 years old are more focused on finishing studies. The same with 16 years old, however, concern for independence is more pronounced. The 20 years old, on the other hand, are more career-oriented. Factors such as influences of family as well as impacts of economic situation are seen to have a strong hold affecting one's deliberations and actions.
