Description
Summary:This paper aims to understand how the stories or narratives on science were outlined in Questions magazine, an annual special publication of De La Salle University (DLSU) published by its Strategic Communications Office. It features research projects and creative endeavors of DLSU faculty researchers. Using framing theory, this paper analyzed the point of view, voice, and audience of the story as well as the visual elements, views of science and of society in selected articles published in the magazine. The analysis showed that the narratives in the magazine highlight scientific research that addresses the problems we face as a society and that are needed for the development of a country like the Philippines. It also showed the importance of engagement with research being implemented not just as an academic work but a collaboration of various experts and sectors to provide the right solutions and for a deeper understanding of our way of life. The study also showed that the articles in the magazine were produced to establish DLSU as a leading research institution in the Philippines while sharing the university’s research projects to a wider audience and responding to the need for an easier approach in understanding various scientific research.
