Summary: | Pinus merkusii Jungh. & de Vriese is a pine tree confined to the IndoMalayan region. In the Philippines, it is limited to Zambales (Luzon Island) and in Mindoro Island, hence, the habitat of P. merkusii is considered a priority research and development area for the conservation of forest genetic resources. This study would help gain information in the understanding of the morphological variation of the Mindoro pine, and therefore provide scientific basis for the implementation of various conservation methods. The needle morphological variations between populations of P. merkusii and with the documented environmental conditions were compared. |
