Summary: | This is a study that attempts to characterize Indigenous Materials and their potential applications to engineering works. Primarily, the research focuses on the evaluation of the thermal conductivity of agricultural waste products, namely coirdusts, sawdusts, and ricehulls. This thermal property of materials is a of their insulation capabilities and hence their potentials to be used in energy conservation.
The method of testing the preparation of materials in a slab form and fixed quantity of heat energy was allowed to pass through the samples. Temperatures of either side of the board were monitored until the whole system reached equilibrium.
The apparatus used was a standard guarded hot plate where the sample was simply placed between the heating and cooling units. |
