Summary: | Pap Smear slides are diagnosed manually by pathologists. Manual screening is done with the pathologist examining the Pap Smear slide through a microscope. Manual screening of Pap Smear slides by Pathologists takes time and is prone to human error especially when pathologists works overtime which results to an inaccuracy. Also, patients have to go to the hospital to get their results which also consume some time. The group developed a program using MATLAB to detect diseases such as Candida, Coccobacilli, Trichomonas Vaginalis and Atypical Squamous Cells of Undetermined Significance (ASCUS) with a Graphical User Interface (GUI) developed using Visual Basic NET and with a website using the ASP technology. By implementing Pap Smear Screening Using Image Processing with Web Accessibility, human supervision will be lessened. The thesis will not serve as a replacement for the Pathologist but will serve as a tool that lessens their work load. Being web accessible will omit the time for the patient to go to the hospital for the result, thus the patient will only need a computer with an internet connection. |
