Description
Summary:One important source of local government revenues that has not been properly tapped is from on-street parking. This could be an important source of local funds if properly collected and managed. The proper and detailed inventory of the current on-street parking facilities in an area would also ensure proper and efficient parking fees collection. When on- street parking is properly managed and designed, accidents could be minimized if not eliminated. There would also be a sense of order and control on the use of the road. This study inventoried and characterized the on-street parking of the City of Manila, focusing in the Ermita and Malate Districts. The inventory of on-street parking facilities in the Ermita and Manila Districts could provide some insights into the relationship of parking to adjacent land uses and could then be used to project future parking needs considering the on-going major developments, specifically parking generators, in the area. Furthermore, the study recommend an urban parking management plan for the said Districts in order to improve parking revenues as well as to make efficient use of the road network as well as develop an on-street road parking inventory and management system for the Ermita and Malate Districts for long term traffic and parking management system.
