Summary: | Kakawati Gliciridia Sepium is known to contain several components. The alkaloidal components were selectively isolated by multiple acid extraction, using methanol and 10% hydrochloric acid. Preliminary qualitative tests were conducted using the Wagner's and Mayer's reagent. Using thin layer chromatography and rapid column chromatography the different components were separated and isolated. The solvent system which relatively affected the significant isolation was 50:50 petroleum ether and diethyl ether. The isolate has a nicotine like odor and physical characteristics, component, Infrared spectrophotometric as well as NMR (Nuclear Magnetic Resonance) spectra was obtained. |
