الوصف
الملخص:Coconut biodiesel is a prospective fuel substitute and additive derived from the transesterification of the triglycerides of coconut oil to methyl ester. This study quantitatively determine the amount of air pollutants coming from the emissions and energy consumptions of coconut biodiesel in the Philippines from the raw materials extraction to its final utilization using Chain Management by LIfe Cycle Assessment (CMLCA). CMLCA is a freeware intended to support the technical steps of the Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) procedure. The input data for model calibration were derived from theoretical mass and energy balances, technical publications, industry average values and government databases. CMLCA results quantified the inflows and outflows in each stage of production for the inventory analysis. Contribution analysis for each of the processes was also done. The overall result of the CMLCA can be used to support further policy making and implementation regarding the coconut biodiesel commercialization in the Philippines and improve the process efficiency of biodiesel system by identifying the stages where energy and emissions are high.
