Liu, Anderson R. Que, Jemie L. This paper reports on the error identification component of an intelligent tutoring system that is designed to help foreign language speakers learn standard English. The system models the grammar proficiency of the learner, with this instantiation of the system tailored to college students having Filipino as their first language. We begin by discussing how the Interactive Computer Identification and Correction of Language Errors (ICICLE) system works and the need to make use of mal-rules (also called "error productions") in order to capture the ungrammaticalities. After which, we discuss the need for a localized version of ICICLE in the form of the Past or Progressive: A Software for Identification and Correction of Language Errors (POPSICLE) system and how it will be different from ICICLE. Wherein having both the target population and the domain as the main difference requires a different set of mal-rules. We then discuss how these new set of mal-rules were derived and represented along with corresponding example sentences. 2016-01-01T08:00:00Z text https://animorepository.dlsu.edu.ph/faculty_research/11913 Faculty Research Work Animo Repository English language--Philippines--Syntax English language—Usage Intelligent tutoring systems Linguistics
