Description
Summary:This paper gives a brief introduction to the use of semantic models for solving the interoperability problem among concurrent engineering systems. It provides a starting point for manufacturing systems engineers wanting to know the current work done in using ontology-based technologies for manufacturing interoperability research and development. review of the current research efforts in using ontology-based information systems is given. The paper concludes by proposing the use of emerging sematic web technologies as the backbone of the research for solving the interoperability problem.
