| Summary: | This study dealt with the analysis of the linguistics structures and functions of native expressions, or non-English lexicons, in 36 Philippine stories written in English. The primary focus of the study was the stylistic designs used by Filipino writers in incorporating native expressions in their stories. The type of language, classification of function and technique of usage were the points of analyses for this study. Results indicate that the native expressions were mostly in Spanish, that the terms dominantly belong in agriculture, food and kinship categories and that contextualization was the principal manner by which writers use these native expressions. |
