Framing devices in the inaugural addresses of De La Salle University presidents and chancellors (2004-2015)

This study provides a close examination of seven inaugural addresses of the De La Salle University presidents and chancellors in a span of just over a decade, from Academic Year 2004-2005 to Academic Year 2015-2016. Adapting the framing devices used by Young (2013) in a study of university and college president's speeches and taking into account Thro's (2009) notion of hybrid speeches employed by CEO's, this study analyzes how DLSU's leaders frame their thoughts on leadership and their new position. This study raises the need to further develop the standards for examining inaugural addresses in universities and colleges, and to delineate the characteristics unique to this genre.
