Description
Summary:In line with the Philippine Government's thrust to lessen the dependence on imported products and the prospects for higher exports of Philippine products, the agenda for the development and modernization of production processes that includes the metal casting processes, is highly prioritized. Spin casting has been widely used in the Philippines for novelty items or ornamental hardware only. Development of other applications of spin casting such as in rapid prototyping and production of functional items could be of significant contribution to the growth of the metals industry in the Philippines. Due to low investment and production cost, spin casting technology can be easily adopted by small and medium scale enterprises of the Philippine metals industry. In this paper, design parameters that have significant contributions in the improvement of the quality of spin casting products are identified which can serve as guidelines for researchers, designers and practitioners in the area of spin casting technology. Optimization methods and other engineering analysis techniques that can be possibly applied in the development of the spin casting process are presented.
