Summary: | Millions of young people today are victims of injustice and oppression. Poverty, socioeconomic inequality and corruption are a depressing reality for the younger generation. As a result, their creative energies are stifled early in life and never actualize their potentials. These sociopolitical realities have negative impact on young people. There is a lack of good role models for the youth and so they easily follow wrong models such as those projected in media.
Young people nowadays are exposed to he influences of the modern trends and many of them are going through a value crisis, value conflict and value confusion that lead to a "value vacuum" with no values to guide them. Generation gap between youth animators, elders and church authorities is aggravated further by existing communication gap of dialogue (Eilers Franz-Josef, 2002, pp. 100-101).
Recognizing the essential role of the families (especially the parents) in the formation of young people, host families from partner communities of COSCA's CWTS program are significant partners and co-formators in instilling values and character among the youth who believed to be the hope of the nation. Not only as recipients of aid, host families could also be co-journeyers of the program implementers in teaching minds, touching hearts and transforming lives through the students' actual experience and interaction with the lost, the least and the last in the community.
Hence, this manual aims to provide the partner organizations a common reference material in developing host families and preparing them in the actual encounter with Lasallians. Considering that they are also a major stakeholder in the program, it is important that they will undergo this formation process and in the long run become molders of the youth today. |
