eBooks: Finding their way into the information experience of the DLSU Libraries' users

This paper looks into the development of the DLSU Libraries eBook collection and examines the extent of its usage through citation analysis and transaction log analysis. Citation analysis was used to examine the frequency of eBook usage as evidenced by the number of eBook references cited in faculty works (both published and unpublished). Faculty works included in the analysis were those completed within academic years 2008-09 to 2010-11 (3 years after the introduction of eBooks) that were submitted to the Archives. It likewise employed transaction log analysis (TLA) to determine the receptiveness of the DLSU community to eBooks, five years after it was introduced. Results of the study revealed that DLSU faculty members still rely heavily on the use of printed materials but the academic community in general is slowly getting accustomed to using eBooks in their search for information. The paper concluded that eBook is still in the early stage of adoption as far as DLSU users are concerned.
