Description
Summary:The treatment of higher load graywater, mixture of kitchen sink wastewater – KSWW and washing machine wastewater – WMWW, using ultrafilter-hollow fiber-subMBR was investigated. The effect of loading rate on degradation of linear alkylbenzene sulfonate (LAS) was monitored. Four lab-scale subMBR were operated at HRT of 4, 8, 12, and 24 hours giving a corresponding OLR of 6.0. 3.0, 2.0 and 1.0 kgCOD/m3-day, respectively. The KSWW supplied was obtained from the university’s cafeteria while the WMWW was obtained from four university students. The influent which is a mixture of KSWW and WMWW has LAS concentration on the range of 10.3-23.1 mg/L. The results showed that about 99% removal of total LAS was achieved at HRT of 8 hours and longer or OLR of 3.0 kgCOD/m3-day and lower. Furthermore, a relatively stable permeate qualities in terms of COD were obtained at these reactors compared to shortest HRT (4 hours).
