A proposed wind zone map of the Philippines and its use for performance-based design

This paper proposes a regional wind zone map of the Philippines. The map was obtained by characterizing the extreme wind speeds from fifty weather stations in the Philippines using extreme value (EV) models. The EV models used were the Generalized Extreme Value (GEV), Gumbel and the point process. T...

Koike, Takeshi Hoshiya, Masaru Maruyama, Osamu This paper proposes a regional wind zone map of the Philippines. The map was obtained by characterizing the extreme wind speeds from fifty weather stations in the Philippines using extreme value (EV) models. The EV models used were the Generalized Extreme Value (GEV), Gumbel and the point process. The results show that the standard errors in the point process model are lower in most stations compared to the Gumbel and GEV model. The results of the point process fitting of the extreme wind speeds for each station are then used to estimate the 50-year return speeds. Subsequently a regional wind zone map of the Philippines with six zone was developed using kriging method from ArcGIS Geostatistical Analyst. One important use of the wind zone map is for performance-based design of structures. In this paper we investigate the buckling failure of a wind turbine generator (WTG) under a stochastic extreme wind load. 2022-06-04T11:04:00Z text https://animorepository.dlsu.edu.ph/faculty_research/6116 Faculty Research Work Animo Repository
