Description
Summary:We propose an approach to the design of a scalable and rapidly delopyable wireless rain monitoring network. The system is based on power monitoring functions built into all cellular mobile handsets in combination with new acoustic rain sensing technologies. Preliminary measurements using these sensors, during a major hurricane, show their suitability for real time monitoring of rain events at spatial scales of 1 to tens of kilometers, the network diameter limited only by the size of the mobile wireless infrastructure.
