The number of cooperatives in the Philippines continues to grow. This mirrors the worldwide trend wherein interest in the cooperative business model is increasing as failures of the traditional business models become apparent and felt. Cooperatives are in a unique position to address these problems and it now becomes apparent that this business model provides an alternative way of doing this due to its very nature. The triple bottom line for measuring success of business is gaining popularity as it now becomes apparent that single-mindedly pursuing financial returns ignores the costs of obtaining it. The cooperative business model, by its very nature, is a model that is triple bottom line oriented. The current problem of measuring growth in this industry is the fact that measurements being used are inappropriate to the nature of cooperatives. The researcher proposes further researchers with regards to devising performance standards that takes into consideration the nature of cooperatives.
