Summary: | An experimental investigating has been carried out to analyze the performance of an indirect compression ignition engine fueled with preheated pure used oil and 10%, 20% and 50% mix of biodiesel-diesel and 10% and 20% blends of used oil-diesel and used oil-biodiesel fuels. Power reduction impacts were evaluated vis a-vis the power-speed demand requirements of jeepneys while fuel economy was simulated using instantaneous fuel consumption modeling utilizing local jeepney drive. All the fueling options provided minimal power rating reductions. The 10% biodiesel-diesel blend provided the fuel economy comparable to diesel fuel while the 100% used oil blends exhibited the highest fuel utilization. Significant fuel economy deterioration was also observed for the oil-biodiesel blends. The other biodiesel-diesel blends and oil diesel blends exhibited slight increases in fuel consumption with reduction values higher at higher biodiesel and oil percentages, respectively. The oil-biodiesel blends and 100% used oil fuel exhibited the strongest smoke reduction potential. |
