Description
Summary:Context:Some studies have been done on well-organized exercise trainings intended to promote successful aging. Nowadays, aging low back pain patients are offered surgical and nonsurgical procedures to remedy their problem. Objective: To compare the performance surgery (n=20) and non surgery (n=26) low back pain sexagenarian patients undergoing training using the MedX flexion machine. It aimed to quantify how much progress can sexagenarian patients gain after training despite accelerating loss in physical capabilities. Intervention: Eight weeks of strength training. Setting: MedX Training facility. Main Outcome Measures: Lumbar flexion strengths before training program, four weeks later and eight weeks later. Results: There is a significant improvement in the torque strengths for all the patients amounting to average improvements of 69.67 ± 22.48 % for women and 45.62 ± I 7.3 I% for men after an eight-week period. The rate of improvement varied depending upon the nature of remedial intervention performed on the low-back pain patient (i.e., surgical or non surgical).
