Description
Summary:Over the past few years, the telecommunications industry has experienced tremendous changes. Products and services have changed to meet the demands of the public. The Philippine Long Distance Telephone Company (PLDT) has also grown to meet these demands. The restructuring of the Company into three entities, PLDT-Wireless, PLDT-Fixed and ePLDT has brought not only solutions but also innovations in the Philippine telecommunications industry. PLDT's fixed-line business currently enjoys a whopping seventy percent1 (70%) market share in the Philippine telecommunications market. PLDT's public switched telephone network (PSTN) is the heart of its fixed-line business. This PSTN network is efficiently maintained by three Regional Network Management Centers (RNMCs), strategically organized to follow the geographic distribution of subscribers in the Archipelago - Luzon, Visayas/Mindanao and the Greater Metro Manila (GMM) Area. PLDT's fixed-line business also includes the Digital Subscriber Line (DSL), which will allow users to access the Internet up to 100 times the speed of a regular dial-up connection. New technology such as Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM), Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM), Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) and other broadband technologies allow more room for PLDT's fixed business to expand. This paper will be discussing the role of International & Luzon Network Surveillance Division (lntl&LuzNSD) as the core group behind the Luzon RNMC. This paper focuses on the strategic directives of lntl&LuzNSD as one of the Company's principal divisions, focusing on the centralized operation, administration and maintenance of Luzon's core network systems.
