Description
Summary:With the advent of dual-careerism, changes in the family structure and family roles are expected. While women’s adjustment to this set-up has been intensively studied, male perspectives on the phenomenon have been explored indistinctly. This study was an attempt at providing relevant qualitative data on men and women’s views of male masculinity specifically in relation to his experiences in marriage and parenting. There were five married couples who were interviewed in the study. Findings provided evidences that masculinity is associated with decision-making, egalitarian role and expressiveness in the area of marriage. Men are also perceived as nurturant in terms of parenting. Findings are expected to aid in family counseling and contribute to the limited literature of masculinity in the fields of Filipino psychology and marriage and family counseling.
