Development is an invariably important issue in Philippine sociology. Philippine sociology was established in the context of postwar reconstruction and modernization policies under the leadership of sociologists trained in the United States. In this historical and political context; sociologists put effort into practical case studies by focusing on the lives of rural and urban residents. Sociological analysis plays an essential role in national development planning. The Filipino word for “development” is pag-unlad, meaning to advance or develop. It includes “social development,” or eliminating social and political disparities among the people. However, sociologists have observed “exclusive development” in which the Filipino poor are forced to sacrifice more. This paper focuses on the relationship between Philippine sociology and development and examines the challenges of sociologists in achieving pag-unlad, or inclusive development for people experiencing poverty. 2023-03-25T07:00:00Z text application/pdf https://archium.ateneo.edu/dev-stud-faculty-pubs/145 https://archium.ateneo.edu/context/dev-stud-faculty-pubs/article/1145/viewcontent/SocioScience_29_1_7__3__2023_10_12_11_56_37.pdf Development Studies Faculty Publications Archīum Ateneo inclusive development exclusive development philippine sociology Development Studies Social and Behavioral Sciences Sociology |
