It argues that Jacinto’s vernacular political theology had Scholastic foundations. It provides an alternative intellectual history to Philippine revolutionary thought that is neither founded upon Protestant, northwestern European liberal influences nor derived from folk millenarianism but instead emphasizes the need to approach the “Filipino Enlightenment” as participating in a larger, global, distinctly Hispanic intellectual phenomenon.KEYWORDS: POLITICAL PHILOSOPHY • THEOLOGY • REVOLUTION • SOVEREIGNTY • SCHOLASTICISM 2021-06-01T07:00:00Z text application/pdf https://archium.ateneo.edu/phstudies/vol69/iss2/5 info:doi/10.13185/2244-1638.1087 https://archium.ateneo.edu/context/phstudies/article/1087/viewcontent/The_20Scholastic_20Foundations_20_5Bvol._2069_20no._202_20_282021_29_20259_E2_80_9389_5D.pdf Philippine Studies: Historical and Ethnographic Viewpoints Archīum Ateneo
