Regina Franco, Edna P STRATEGIES CAN BE COPIED; technology bought; systems, structures, and processes emulated. Ultimately perhaps the only thing that differentiates one organization from another is its leadership and people. Amidst a plethora of voices telling us what leadership is all about, what do we hope to add with this book? First, the world of work is changing in the Philippines as in the rest of the globe. The rise in the number of women in the workplace, increasing use of technology, changing nature of work and profile of work-ers, increasing competitiveness—all of these demand new ways of leading workers and organizations and traditional management theories seem inadequate. Second, leadership literature is dominated by the West. In an age of globalization, where the rise of Asia as an economic force is an inevitable reality, we feel it important that the leadership discourse be informed by non-Western perspectives. Finally, although lessons from personal experience are certainly valuable, we think it is about time we raised the bar and use data and collective experience to gain insight on the challenges of leadership. Hence, we have brought together fifteen articles that feature researches and best practices in leadership in this part of the world. In the first section,“Leading People,” the articles focus on experiences and perspectives of workers and leaders. The first article,“Framing the Meanings of Work for Filipinos,” presents a research-based framework on the various meanings that work holds for the Filipino worker. The article “Retaining Employees” examines the factors important in driving employee turnover 2008-01-01T08:00:00Z text https://archium.ateneo.edu/psychology-faculty-pubs/214 https://books.google.com.ph/books/about/Leading_Philippine_Organizations_in_a_Ch.html?id=8APvFCeYGucC&redir_esc=y Psychology Department Faculty Publications Archīum Ateneo Industrial and Organizational Psychology Psychology |
