Summary:Leading teams is a core function of leadership in the workplace. The complex dynamics of organizations in today’s volatile; uncertain; complex and ambiguous world requires people to work together to develop products and services; respond to competition; and address daily operational challenges. However; working together is not always as easy as it seems. Rarely do leaders get to manage teams with people that work so well together that they can concertedly hit the ground running and produce the desired results. In many instances; leaders grapple with differences in personalities; work styles; and preferred ways of doing things. The chapter presents foundational knowledge on team dynamics and provide research-based insights and strategies on what leaders can do to develop effective teams. In going through the chapter; leaders hopefully realize that teams naturally go through stages of development and although leadership plays a big role in enabling effective teams; there are other factors that need to be considered and worked on.
