總結: | To build a sense of nation; the appreciation and conservation of architectural heritage is crucial. Architecture is tangible. Architecture here refers to places of worship; government buildings; schools; offices; dwellings of all sorts .that are significant both to the local community and to the nation on several levels: historic; artistic; technological; cultural. Every chapter has three parts: 1) An essay-inventory by Zialcita of landmarks in each district that sums up the history and that details each memorable structure by street.; 2) an essay by Victor Venida on economic uses of heritage in each district; and 3) an essay by Erik Akpedonu on larger heritage issues. E.g. Whose heritage? How is passive cooling achieved in traditional architecture? The book's audiences are several: 1) the wider public interested in the Philippines; 2) heritage experts; and 3) planners interested in making use of architectural heritage for development -purposes such as improving the city and fostering tourism. |
