Some anthropologists date this age to the first water pump (1710) at the start of the industrial revolution. In any case, it now seems clear that human activity is the main determinant of our physical and social world. A consequence of this fact is the increasing unpredictability of the future as human intervention becomes a major factor in shaping such a future. |
