Races ABSTRACT: This study is aimed at finding out the migration experiences of the provincial youth male migrants in Metro Manila regarding their reasons for moving, difficulties encountered in Metro Manila, the eventual adjustment to the new environment and the aspirations related to the decision to move. In a six week period of data collection, ten male migrants housed at the Center for Migrant Youth whose ages ranged from 19-28 were surveyed, interviewed, and observed. From the ten respondents, three cases were singled out for further study. Results showed that provincial migrants move to evade unfavorable economic related factors as well as social-psychological factors particularly family strife in their places of origin and were attracted to Metro Manila because of perceived economic opportunities. Difficulties encountered were basically financial and employment related; and alienation, homesickness and loneliness were experienced socio-psychological difficulties. Their eventual adjustment to the new environment, Metro Manila, was facilitated by their entry to the Center for Migrant Youth which provided a communal living program and value-reformation program that enabled these youths to reform themselves to be better adjusted to the demands of life in Metro Manila. Lastly, aspirations in relation to their move were basically short-term, either to finish their studies or to find employment. 1986 Thesis NonPeerReviewed text http://thesis.dlsud.edu.ph/1467/1/OngD%20...%20-%20Migration.pdf Ong, Daisy Y.
