The title of this research is “Power-Switching Prototype System for a
Household via Wi-Fi and SMS.” This system is composed of an Android application
called “BrightLight”, and a single-board microcontroller called “Gizduino”. This
system is capable of wirelessly switching the power of lights of a household and
scheduling each device for repetitive light switching activities depending on the users’
need.
The proponents used different software such as Eclipse to develop the Android
application using Java programming language, Arduino IDE to connect to the Arduino
hardware, as well as upload sketches or programs; SQLiteManager; Android
Development Tools; and Android Software Development Kit. The designs such as the
images, icons, and logo were created using Adobe Photoshop. The proponents used
different references such as forums, tutorials, videos, articles, and different websites
for the project to be realized. To further improve and test the system, the researchers
conducted a survey to nine (9) SWAFO personnel, three (3) security personnel of
DLSU-D Library, two (2) clinic personnel, four (4) Computer Studies Department
faculty, and thirty-two (32) randomly selected students from DLSU-D, with a total of
fifty (50) respondents.
The researchers were able to prove that a total home renovation is not
necessary in automating light switches in a household setting. The use of simple
hardware materials like microcontroller, relays, and shift registers makes cheaper
home automation very possible. |
