Anti-ulcer property of Artemisia vulgaris L. (damong Maria) leaf extract by histopathological examination of induced gastric ulcer on Mesocricetus auratus (golden hamster).

The research study compares the effect of different concentrations of Artemisia vulgaris (Damong Maria) on Mesocricetus auratus (golden hamster) with induced gastric ulcer. Forty eight mature male golden hamsters were acclimatized for seven days and were grouped by six treatments; each treatment...

QH301 Biology QK Botany RV Botanic, Thomsonian, and eclectic medicine The research study compares the effect of different concentrations of Artemisia vulgaris (Damong Maria) on Mesocricetus auratus (golden hamster) with induced gastric ulcer. Forty eight mature male golden hamsters were acclimatized for seven days and were grouped by six treatments; each treatment had eight golden hamsters. The negative control involved administration in 3 days of 0.05ml of 20% acetic acid for inducing lesion in the cardiac, the fundus and the pylorus gastric regions. One golden hamster was sacrificed histopathologically to determine the number and depth of ulcerations. The Omeprazole (Omepron) known as an anti-ulcer drug served as the positive control. It was given in 12 weeks as Damong Maria to compare its potential anti-ulcer property based on their different concentrations which are 30%, 50%, 70%, and 90%. The golden hamster in each treatment was sacrificed to confirm the possible healing of ulceration on each gastric region. Generally, the increasing concentration (P<0.05) of Damong Maria extract is indirectly proportional to the gastric lesions on the ulcer sites. 2011 Thesis NonPeerReviewed text http://thesis.dlsud.edu.ph/814/7/CodoyDeLeon%20...%20-%20DamongMaria.pdf Codoy, Maria Christina D. and De Leon, Karren Rez R.
