Description
Summary:We investigated the dividend trend across 8 East Asian economies over the period of 1993- 2004, we provide substantial evidence that dividends were not “disappearing” consistently since 1979 to 1999, as put forth in the research work by Fama and French (2001), based on firms solely in the United States. The “disappearing dividends” phenomenon was only observed in the crisis period, due to the effects of the Asian Financial Crisis. Otherwise, number of dividends payers is actually on the rise during both the pre-crisis and post-crisis periods.
