Description
Summary:The study presents a theoretical derivation of a new pick-up probability formulation for sediment transport. Sand particles are assumed to be subjected to a hydraulically rough flow. The derived equation compares well with the experimental data found in published literature. Using the proposed relation, the Shields criterion for the definition of the threshold condition for sediment transport is equivalent to 0.6% of the pick-up probability.
