Summary:This research seeks to explain aspects of the development and evolution of urban tourism over time. The study identified the limited research on tourism development in urban cities. The literature has in the past focused on European cities with little in the Asian context. The project applied the Case Study Method where a case was compared to a theoretical model. The intention was to come up with a model applicable to the Asian cities. Ashworth's model of the evolution of the Historic City was chosen due to its identification of distinctive stages in tourist-historic city. Bangkok was used for the case study. The reasons being Bangkok's rich history background, its tourism development in recent years, and of availability of data on tourism and other urban facets. Following detailed analyses, the evoluation of Bangkok was modelled. Ashworth's model and Bangkok's model were compared to identify any variations.
