Numerical studies on 2-D compressional wave propagation in jointed rock masses
An accidental explosion in an existing tunnel or an explosion in a borehole will generate compressional two-dimensional (2-D) wave that travels through the surrounding rock mass. Stability of the adjacent underground structures is affected by the peak particle velocity or peak particle acceleration...

Summary: | An accidental explosion in an existing tunnel or an explosion in a borehole will generate compressional two-dimensional (2-D) wave that travels through the surrounding rock mass. Stability of the adjacent underground structures is affected by the peak particle velocity or peak particle acceleration induced by the propagated wave. Therefore, the problem of 2-D wave propagation in fractured rock masses due to explosion applied at the boundary of a tunnel or borehole is of practical importance. The current thesis aims to numerically study this problem. |
