Description
Summary:This project studied the various water resources in India and the physical, chemical, and microbiological aspects of the water. Water treatment using conventional methods, water borne diseases, and waterborne outbreaks in the city of Chennai were described. A case study on the supply, storage, distribution and contamination of drinking water in a small residential district, the Asiad Colony, was investigated. Water samples were collected and were analyzed. Both physical and chemical parameters were found to be satisfactory but the water was extremely contaminated in biological aspects and it did not meet the drinking water guidelines as set by World Health Organization (WHO), and Indian Drinking Water Standards. Based on experience from the Asiad Colony water problem, remedial solutions were proposed in this project to alleviate the problem so as to supply safe drinking water to the residents. Since most of the places in India have the same problem, these solutions can be used for most of the cases in India.
