Description
Summary:The main objective of this study is to obtain a clear understanding of the properties of the pile-soil interface and the effects of the soaking duration and the delay in casting on the load transfer behavior along a bored pile. The research involves mainly (1) laboratory shear tests of soils and soil-mortar interface under different soaking conditions, (2) field study of construction effect on load transfer along bored piles, by means of borehole shear tests and pull-out tests on miniature bored piles, (3) establishment of correlation between results from various field and laboratory investigations and load transfer parameters deduced from pull-out tests, (4) development of an empirical procedure for estimating the load transfer curves that accounts for typical construction effects, and (5) a case study of construction effect on load-transfer behaviour and the load-settlement relationship of full-scale instrumented bored piles.
