Summary:The advance in computing power has influenced the development of analysis for laterally loaded single piles. Computer programs using finite element and finite difference methods were well developed in recent decades. Alternatively, a simplified method (Low et al., 2001) using Microsoft Excel as a platform make it extremely simple and explicit for solving this nonlinear and highly mathematical problem, using simple integration instead of fourth-order differential equations. The optimization tool Solver and VBA (Visual Basic Application) were used in the computational approach.
