This report aims to do a thorough study of the tanker market movements for the past 5 years as well as to forecast the Flat Rate 2008, Flat Rate 2009, and future market trends based on a complete understanding of the market mechanism. The market analysis covers: trade routes segmentation, correlation and profitability, market mechanism by examining impacts of special events on market cycles, and the relationship of the physical market with the Freight Forward Agreement market. To summarize, we wish to demonstrate by the peculiar nature of the shipping business that the interaction between demand and supply for shipping has local and global impacts with short term and long term repercussions; and since the demand for shipping is derived from its underlying commodity market, any future trends and developments of these markets will affect shipping in both the short term and long term.
