Summary: | In the past, very few network applications involved multiple users and none of them had QoS (Quality and Service) requirements. New generation of high-speed network has enabled multimedia applications such as video conferencing and distributed real-time interactive communications. The simple multicast routing algorithms that were originally designed for best-effort networks are not suitable for networks supporting real-time applications. Multicast routing algorithms have been an area of intensive research for the past couple of years. In order to route data packets efficiently on a network, several multicast routing algorithms have been proposed and implemented. |
