Product information and management system (PIMS) is an enterprise wide tool that is required to keep track of masses of data and information during the product development cycle and also to maintain new and existing products. It offers a wide range of functions such as engineering change management, product structure for configuration management and engineering data and information by maintaining the integrity of the system. The strength of these systems is in their ability to control files, effectively being able to release, interface with other applications and managing the files. The various types of files include graphics created by CAD system, document managers etc.
